DAMON GANT

Damon Gant is the Chief of Police who was heavily involved in the SL-9 Incident. He killed Jake Marshalls brother, Neil Marshall, after interrogating a serial killer named Joe Darke. During a poweroutage, Darke ran out of the room and fought with Neil Marshall in Damon and Lana Skyes shared office. Damon, desperate to convict Darke, rearranged the scene before Lana arrived to make it look like Darke killed Neil. He also lead Lana to believe that her sister, Ema, had accidentally killed Neil. This was blackmail for Lana, and was later planted as Chief Prosecutor by Damon in order to control the Prosecutors office. Despite this, its implied Damon was actually good at one point in time. This is mostly seen with his slightly eccentric way of giving people like Miles Edgeworth and Phoenix Wright nicknames like "Worthy" and "Wrighto". And also asking people to go swimming with him. Bruce Goodman, one of the original detectives in that case, was interested in reopening it before it was officially considered closed. Damon, in a panic of Bruce figuring out the scene was forged, killed Bruce and ordered Lana to dispose of the body. It can be easily theorized he intended to frame Miles Edgeworth for the crime. As his car was used to transport the body, along with Lana Skye stabbing Bruce again with his own pocket knife. However, this was foiled as Angel Starr witnessed Lana Skye doing this.

Damon appears in the final case of the first game, it should be noted he does not appear in every version of the game (Such as the GBA version or the old PC version) since Rise from The Ashes was introduced when the game was ported to the Nintendo DS. Damon does not appear in the anime or live action movie, but does appear in the pachinko machine.

Gant is one of character designer Kazuya Nuri's favorite characters. He was modeled after Zeus, the leader of the Ancient Greek gods and the lord of the sky. This is apparently referenced in one of Gant's "damage" animations, during which he appears to be either getting electrocuted or emanating lightning from his own body. Gant's fringe also resembles a lightning bolt, although this is more obvious in earlier character designs. Nuri has described Gant as a real Ace Attorney-like character who leaves an impression Source Damons clap animation was so fast in the DS version, it sometimes froze the system.
